"weblog" + lazy people = "blog"

Hi all,

I've never blogged before....in fact, judging by my inability to keep a journal going for more than about a week, I can't really make any promises that I'll keep it up. I will do my best.

Not sure how many people will actually end up reading this, (I'm guessing just my parents for the most part...hi!) but I figured that since I'm planning on traveling to Israel in a couple of weeks for a period of several months, I may as well keep everyone updated all at once.

My goals for Israel: Think a lot, learn a lot, gain a lot. Study abroad, if you will. Be somewhat independent. Think outside of proverbial (American) boxes. Be open to: ideas/change/growth/confusion/frustration/rejection/homesickness/freedom/intellectualism/spirituality (maybe). Dismiss stereotypes. Form logical opinions and rational outlooks. Love who I am, where I come from, and where I'm going. Stop being sappy in my very first blog post.

I hope to post here about things I am learning, thinking, experiencing, and grappling with. I realllly don't want to be one of those people who blogs about her every boring and unimportant waking moment ("today I had cereal for breakfast. usually I have eggs, but this time I had cereal. It tasted so good! so now I think I will have cereal every day!") so hopefully I can keep this interesting by only posting when I have things to actually say. Feel free to comment, or just silently read in the background (they call those people "lurkers" on poker forums, I'm told). Again, I've never done this before, so I hope it doesn't end up boring or unattended. Hopefully I can update it every few days or once a week or so...until I start slacking, at which point it'll probably be once every two or three weeks. :) I think I can even post pictures! Cool.

If you want, I can send out an email to update you when I have a new post on here...just let me know if you wnt me to do that.

OK, that's all I really have to say at the moment. Actually, that's not true, but I know people have short attention spans, so this is where this, my first blog post ever, will end.

Shalom!

Shira
